Barney’s Beanery Named Best Sports Bar
By: Julissa Rodriguez
Barney’s Beanery – the third oldest restaurant in Los Angeles – won the Los Angeles Times 2011 Readers’ Choice Poll for Best Sports Bar.
The survey noted Barney’s “multiple big-screen TVs, trivia, comedy nights and karaoke” makes this iconic eatery feel “like college never ended.”
Barney’s has also renovated its 700-item “mega” menu with bar favorites such as prosciutto and arugula white pizza, a chili sampler, tri-tip black bean chili and breakfast items served all day long.
Founded in 1920, Barney’s Beanery is a LA landmark with the legendary stories to prove it. Jim Morrison was thrown out for urinating on the bar, and Janis Joplin had drinks here the night of her death.
The place is still packed nightly with a local crowd seeking cheap eats, strong drinks and a huge list of draft beers.
