Antonio Aguilar was called El Charro de México (“Mexico’s Cowboy”) for the way he brought traditional Mexican equestrianism to worldwide popularity. But that’s not all he gave the world. Along with his wife Flor Silvestre, Antonio Aguilar was a superstar of mid-20th North America, starring in films, racking up hit songs, and making sure Mexican culture made an impact in the entertainment business.

It’s a tradition his family has carried on. His son, Pepe Aguilar, became the voice of a new generation of Mexican music and an icon in the Latin American music industry. The winner of four Grammys and five Latin Grammys, he sings songs of love and heartbreak, making his dedication to his heritage known when he brings mariachi and boleros together with heart-stoppingly romantic performances.

Since making their debut with 2012’s Nueva Tradición,brother-and-sister duo Ángela and Leonardo Aguilar have quickly established themselves as stars. Like her father and grandparents, Angela can sing a breathtaking bolero or put a haunting spin on “La Llorona,” but she’s also collaborated with artists far outside of her field, like Steve Aoki and Alicia Keys. That adventurous spirit and undeniable talent has made her a Grammy nominee and four-time Latin Grammy nominee. Her brother Leonardo has also made a name for himself performing regional and traditional Mexican music—and singing for American presidents. His rich take on norteño has led to a pair of Latin Grammy awards. Together, Ángela and Leonardo are keeping the Aguilar name in lights for a long time to come.

The Aguilars’ performance at the Bowl is based on their extremely popular Jaripeo: Hasta Los Huesos shows. These massive celebrations of Mexican culture—complete with circus acts, folklorico dancers, and lasso throwers—have sold out arenas in the US and Mexico. They’ll team up with Gustavo Dudamel and the Simón Bolívar Orchestra to bring the party to the Bowl. And as the Associated Press says of Pepe, “For Aguilar, his work always goes back to culture and family. It’s not about him. It’s about amplifying the sounds that define his community.”
