10 Dishes You Must Try in West Hollywood During DineL.A.

Hundreds of incredible, standout restaurants around the city participate in dineL.A. (January 12-26), and West Hollywood shines in particular during this two-week showcase, with chefs bringing flavors both intrinsic to California cuisine and exotic, exciting and foreign to fans and newcomers alike.

Don’t know where to start? We’ve rounded up 10 dishes that you must try during dineL.A. You won’t want to miss a single bite.

Gracias Madre

At this restaurant, known for plating delicious, vegan food, don’t miss the Flautas de Camote. This menu favorite features crispy, rolled tacos packed with sweet potatoes and caramelized onions. They are topped with cashew cheese, guacamole, cilantro and pico de gallo.

The Madre’s Coliflor Frito (a.k.a. fried cauliflower) has a cashew-based nacho cheese. It’s a testament to the best of vegan food in the city of L.A. The drink list here focuses similarly pure, with the Purista house Margarita being an ideal example. It’s simply tequila, lime, agave syrup and a few drops of orange bitters, shaken with an orange salt rim.

Connie and Ted’s

The Lobster Roll here is an L.A. legend. It’s both luxe and rustic, eaten with your hands but also a moment of calorie-laden decadence. And, it’s always available your way. The first option is to have it hot, with warmed, drawn butter to sprinkle over it or dip it in. The second option is a cold preparation, with the meat tossed in a creamy, chilled mayo. Both preparations are served on a buttery, soft, brioche roll made in-house daily.

Their Chowda Sample is also on special during DineL.A. at lunch, featuring chowder three ways: Manhattan, New England or Rhode Island. A sampling of all three is also available, each a faithful rendition of the original. View the menu

E.P. & L.P.

For DineL.A., Chef Louis is preparing ribs two ways. Start with his Sticky Spare Ribs, which come tossed with a five-spice caramel sauce, pickled serrano chili and crunchy, toasted rice. Then, you can have the Twice Cooked Short Rib, also on special, and wood grilled with ginger and yellow bean. They’ve got a crispy, crackled exterior and a tender, shredded interior and a second order of these is a grand idea. View the menu

Petrossian West Hollywood

Petrossian becomes wonderfully affordable during DineL.A. This year, it’s only $49 per person for the dinner menu, including two savory options and a dessert. But the real highlight is the Caviar Supplement for $50. This deal allows you to sample the delicate, nuanced Tsar Imperial Caviar Flight. That’s a tasting of Shassetra, Ossetra, Siberian and Kaluga Huso Hybrid caviar for only $50. The staff is expertly prepared to walk you through the nuances and histories of the types you are tasting. Ivory on Sunset

The Lamb Shank Bourguignon is DineL.A. decadence, while providing that winter, rustic, comfort-food appeal. Faithful to the classic French preparation, a long cook time in wine and spices equals meat that falls off the bone. It’s served on a bed of roasted turnips, bright carrots, chanterelle mushrooms, and soft potato. Nestled inside the Mondrian, the beautiful setting is accompanied by a special chef-launched lunch menu for DineL.A. too, and you can have dinner for a mere $39. View the menu

ROKU

Absolutely make this a part of your DineL.A. agenda––for the Green Tea Tiramisu. It’s a mash-up of exotic, Eastern-inspired flavors along with Western-style technique. Three layers of soft, spongy cake have been infused with herbal green tea. That’s then filled with green tea ice cream and a swirl of cream, further tea infused. A finishing garnish of swirled strawberry sauce gives this ultra-light, sweet cake a tart finish and a pop in presentation. View the menu

WeHo Bistro

Everything at this cafe is homemade, so you really cannot go wrong, but their Bread Pudding might make you yell, “Hold on! I need to Instagram this!” A combination of crusty French baguettes and sweet, gooey, flakey croissants are studded with golden raisins. Once the thick slices are set on a plate, they are drizzled with caramel sauce and again with a vanilla sauce. The Bread Pudding at WeHo Bistro may not be on your diet but it needs to be on your dineL.A. list of dishes to travel for. View the menu
