A Jewel of a Hotel in the Design District

West Hollywood is known for its innovative vision and WeHo hotels keep setting the bar higher by creating first-rate space – impressive both in form and function. A case in point: The brand-new La Peer Hotel, by Kimpton, officially opened its doors on February 27, 2018. It’s the first hotel in the WeHo Design District.

Aiming to create β€œa symphony of the arts,” designer Gulla JΓ³nsdΓ³ttir says her inspiration came from the neighborhood itself. Indeed, the hotel’s artful mix of shapes, patterns and colors makes an immediate impact. Rich juxtapositions of contrasting textures and thoughtful references to creative achievement reward the careful observer.

Uber-chic and ultra-inviting, the La Peer boasts more than 8,000 square feet, housing 105 guest rooms and suites, a pool and a rooftop event space. Locals are already flocking to Viale Dei Romani to try chef Casey Lane’s contemporary California trattoria fare with an emphasis on wood-fired seafood, vegetables and handmade pastas. (The restaurant also offers 24-hour in-room dining; craft cocktails are available in-room from 10-11 p.m.)

Want to grab a more casual bite? Just order a custom picnic basket. Then get out and explore. A Tesla house car is available within a one-mile radius. Or borrow a custom-designed bike and start pedaling. Or check out the tours from hotel partner Bikes & Hikes LA. You’ll find a pocket-size guide to neighborhood hot spots for arts, shopping and nightlife.

The District’s piΓ¨ce de rΓ©sistance is the Pacific Design Center (PDC), a 1.6 million square foot campus, by architect CΓ©sar Pelli. The center includes about 100 showrooms to display interior design, furnishing and decorating wares. Additionally, there is a branch of the Museum of Contemporary Art as well as several galleries and a screening room.

Beyond the PDC, fashion design is well represented by boutiques and stores, highlighting talent such as Stella McCartney, Helmut Lang and Jenni Kayne.

Back at the ranch (make that rarefied retreat) there’s the La Peer’s fitness center and resident trainers to coach you through your sessions. The Ole Henriksen Spa will provide relaxation/bath treatments. Many rooms have a deep-soaking tub and a separate shower. By design.
