Petit Ermitage, West Hollywood’s Boho Getaway Hotel

This enchanting all-suite retreat is full of secret spaces

Private and regal with a dash of bohemian allure, the Petit Ermitage hotel sets the stage for an enchanting retreat from the city’s hustle and bustle, and a healthy dose of well-deserved pampering.

“Hello darkness,” reads the red neon sign framed by lush ivy at the front entrance. A pair of solid bronze crocodiles, stout and sly, stand sentry at the door. The building, on a leafy side street between Sunset and Santa Monica boulevards, was constructed in 1979 and, about 11 years ago, became the 79-suite Petit Ermitage. Since then, it has acquired a sterling reputation for serving a diverse clientele, many of whom are artists and art lovers. In fact, the hotel’s art collection includes original works by Miró, De Kooning, Rauschenberg, and Dali.

What to Expect

Arrive with an open mind as you never know who you’ll cross paths with. Oh, and Petit Ermitage’s private rooftop—for hotel guests only—Is quite something: for starters, globally inspired fine fare for breakfast, lunch,  and dinner, 360-degree views of the Hollywood Hills, and a heated saltwater pool and cabanas. (Saltwater is known for its therapeutic effects.)

The Butterfly Bar

Don’t leave without trying seasonal “spirited love potions” at the Butterfly Bar. Ingredients are sourced from farmer’s markets or local farms. The hotel’s garden space is recognized by the National Wildlife Federation as a sanctuary for hummingbirds and butterflies.

The Master’s Lounge

Relax by the fireplace with a coffee and a book by day, or hang out after hours for any number of interesting activities that take place weekly. You never know who will swing by and start tickling the ivories of their hand-painted piano. (Trust Us. Ask about their special Master’s Lounge activities when you check in.)

Amenities & Soirees

On Monday evenings, the Petit Ermitage screens films on the sunken outdoor fireplace, known as the Firedeck. Enjoy fresh popcorn, cocktails, and other delightful fare as you watch a movie under the stars.

Feeling virtuous? Strike a pose at the Firedeck’s complimentary yoga classes Monday through Friday at 8 a.m. and on Saturdays and Sundays at 9 a.m.. Or, if yoga’s not your thing, the hotel also has an on-site gym. Spa treatments can be provided in your room.

Feeling adventurous? You are mere steps away from the excitement of world-class entertainment venues (mainstays include The Roxy Theatre and the Troubadour). For retail therapy, Melrose Avenue is hard to beat. And, for a relaxing dinner, there are plenty of outstanding restaurants nearby: Petrossian, Catch, Katana, Craig’s, and E.P. & L.P., to name a few.
