Lindsay Luv is the person who makes the music happen at Skybar at Mondrian Hotel. This celebrity DJ is much in demand – having worked with A-list brands from Adidas, Bentley and Chanel to Victoria’s Secret, Vanity Fair and Rachael Zoe, just to name a few.
A Boston native, Luv started out in New York City on the corporate side of the biz before reinventing herself and coming to Los Angeles, where’s she been based for the last eight years.
Here, we talk with the globetrotting guru.
What are your musical influences?
DJ AM was my largest influence. He was an incredible club DJ and musical force. I would send him my finds from working with indie artists. He suggested that, with my wealth of music knowledge and enthusiasm for sharing it, I try my hand at DJing.
There were so few female DJs at the time, which was a particularly enticing challenge – to break that boys’ club down. I would go to my friends’ nightclub, Ella, in the Village and teach myself how to DJ with a pair of headphones, vinyls and a dream. Eventually they gave me my first weekly gig.
What’s the most requested song or artist?
It used to be Drake but Bodak Yellow and Rake it Up had a major moment of requests. Right now I feel like it is a bit more spread out. Personally I am loving Dua Lipa.
What do you love most about WeHo?
West Hollywood is really the hub of all things LA. It is so central with so many great places. I love that it is always evolving yet stays distinctly itself.
Where are your favorite spots for dinner and drinks?
One of my favorite spots is a Lebanese place near West Hollywood called Open Sesame and I always love some killer Mexican at Bar Amá downtown. I spend a lot of weekends chilling at Alcove in Los Feliz and when I hit the beach I always try to hit Gjelina or Gjusta. Thai food is also a favorite and there is a reason WeHo’s Night + Market is so popular; the food is insanely good and the owners are super cool.
