The Stunning West Hollywood EDITION Opens to Acclaim

One of the most highly anticipated hotels has opened at the intersection of Sunset Boulevard and Doheny Drive. The West Hollywood EDITION combines the best of luxury living, hospitality, and nightlife amid its 190 guest rooms, suites and 20 high-end residences designed by famed architect John Pawson.

The property and décor were conceived by hospitality and nightlife guru Ian Schrager (in a partnership with the Marriott International EDITION brand), who has not been involved with a property out west since the early days of the Mondrian down the street. Again, Schrager brings a unique and cool, yet high-end concept that is already a playground for celebrities and locals.

WEST HOLLYWOOD EDITION LOFT TERRACE

Upon arrival in the spacious, modern three-story lobby, a dangling Sterling Ruby mobile art installation of an oil drum and a frying pan pays homage to the hallowed ground of the site which once held the legendary Scandia restaurant where Frank Sinatra was a frequent guest and, far less glamorous, another incarnation as a gas station. This area holds an approachable full bar and an all-day menu that includes everything from pastries to the more exotic Iberico ham and drunken goat cheese on sourdough toast with plum jam.

Adjacent to the buzzing lobby is the romantic Ardor restaurant enshrouded in greenery that is perfect for privacy and intimacy.  In keeping with the verdant décor theme, the menu showcases a veggie-forward menu from vegetarian chef John Fraser – a Michelin-star chef who was also mentored by Thomas Keller of French Laundry fame in Napa. Here you will find milk bread with beefsteak tomatoes, arugula farrow risotto, and cauliflower cacio e pepe along with seafood and steak options. Cocktails range in color codes from a “clear” garden vodka to an “orange” blanco tequila with carrot juice – and you can also order a burger at the bar.

Love a good city view? Head up to the top floor bar and lounge – serving a southern California Mexican menu – awash in shades of white with a wraparound landscaped terrace and pool.  Continue your relaxed vibe with a visit to the minimalist and soothing spa with an array of treatment rooms covering guided meditation, facials, massage, hair, make-up and nail services – or you can just take a steam or hit the gym to detox from the night before. While the 24-hour access cardio machines have personal flat screens, you can also book a personal training session if desired.

When pressing business calls, choose from more than 5,200 square feet of meeting and event space with state-of-the-art equipment such as LED screens for video conferences and multilingual secretarial staff.

Back to the party atmosphere, you might want to try and reserve a space in the basement club “Sunset” for more nightlife. Open Thursday through Saturday, the semi-private club usually features surprise guests, many curated by superstar DJ Zen Freeman, so you never know what might happen below the hotel grounds after hours.

While this hotel location is easy walking distance from other legendary haunts, top restaurants, and nightlife on Sunset Boulevard, with all of these lux amenities and intriguing spaces, you might never want to venture out past the stunning entrance of the property.
