Famed Artist, Dan Corson, Illuminates Santa Monica Boulevard
Special Events
1/28/2008 - 5/15/2008
1/28/2008 through 5/15/5008. Nightly

Santa Monica Blvd/ Doheney Dr

West Hollywood, CA

A new art "Art on the Outside" exhibit in West Hollywood will light up the dark winter skies. Artist Dan Corson's "Empyrean Passage" light sculpture is on display each evening at the intersection of Santa Monica Boulevard and Doheny Drive from Monday, January 28, 2008 to May 15, 2008. The light sculpture is part of the City's "Art on the Outside" program.

"Art on the Outside is a great example of how government can give back to its constituents by making the City a more beautiful and enjoyable place to live," said West Hollywood Mayor John Duran. "I am a strong supporter of the Arts, and I believe that this type of exhibit nurtures creativity and a sense of ownership which makes our City unique," he continued.

"Empyrean Passage" was inspired by mathematical formulas that can be translated into 3-dimensional forms and is reminiscent of a theoretical black hole. The light sculpture will measure twenty feet tall and consist of a series of metal hoops of various sizes. At night, the rings glow to create a floating form inspired by a black hole's absence of light. The entire sculpture gracefully moves with the wind causing a rippling of these rings and produces a gossamer effect of moving light. The sculpture utilizes extremely "green" low voltage electroluminescent light.
