Walk through the huge, 30-foot mahogany doors into the spacious lobby and you’re bound to pick up on the vibe of upscale sophistication of Mondrian Los Angeles. Look a little more and you’ll see a Lucite indoor swing – so you know it’s also super chill.
A longtime spot to see and be seen, Mondrian Los Angeles was originally built as an apartment building in 1959, appealing to local luminaries. The property became Le Mondrian, a luxury boutique hotel, in 1985, and boasted Yaacov Agam’s massive exterior painting, which called for 490 gallons of paint in 54 colors.
Just over a decade later, the Morgans Hotel Group (now part of SBE) bought the property and in 2008 internationally acclaimed designer Benjamin Noriega-Ortiz lent his vision to a striking redesign.
We caught up with celebrity disc-jockey extraordinaire, DJ Lindsay Luv, who gives us her take on why Skybar, and the Mondrian, are the place to be.
Curated Shopping & Dazzling City Views
Browse the Exxhibit Boutique for one-of-a-kind, curated shopping – often featuring the work of local artists. And Exxhibit occasionally hosts pop-up art events. Or work up a healthy sweat – the Fitness Center is open 24 hours a day.
Then meet for drinks, dinner and a dazzling view at Ivory on Sunset. The name is a nod to piano keys and the legendary music scene that surrounds the Mondrian. Feast on California cuisine – filet mignon, salmon or roasted duck breast with foie gras, perhaps.
Live the Entertainment Dream
Walking distance from world-famous clubs such as Whisky A Go Go, the Viper Room and the Comedy Store, staying at the Mondrian means you are living the entertainment dream. You’re also a short drive from Laurel Canyon, the Getty Museum, Rodeo Drive, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Staples Center and Dodgers Stadium.
Or keep it simple and stay in. The Mondrian’s crown jewel, for many visitors, is the Skybar Lounge. This haute hangout features a gorgeous pool and great music from cutting-edge DJs. Feel like dancing? Go right ahead!
Then retire to your room and relax. Many of the Mondrian rooms – spacious, stylish and whimsical – have floor-to-ceiling windows. Rainfall showers, 24-hour room service and in-room spa services are other highlights.
