West Hollywood’s Long History of Pride
Activism, equality and Pride have always been part of West Hollywood’s DNA. Beginning in the 1970s, West Hollywood was the site of some of the earliest gay rights parades on the West Coast, and Pride celebrations have taken place here ever since — growing in size, diversity and reach every year. Today, West Hollywood is considered one of the most LGBTQ-friendly cities in the nation — if not the world — with more than 40% of residents identifying as LGBTQ+ and a diverse array of queer-owned businesses opening their arms to people of every gender and sexual orientation.
