5 Things You Need to do for Awards Season 2019

Spring. Summer. Fall. Winter. And if you are in West Hollywood, there is Awards Season. This year, the celebration of Hollywood’s best kicks off with The Golden Globes on January 6, often seen as the predictor to the Oscars. And while the Globes will take place in Beverly Hills (our next door neighbor), many of the after-parties and gift lounges take place right here in West Hollywood.  In fact the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, the organization behind the Globes, is based right here in West Hollywood.

So, in honor of all the parties coming up (even if that just means you and your besties watching it at home with a bottle of champagne), here are 5 things you must do to make sure your glam is ready for Awards Season 2019.

1. Wake Up and Makeup

Deciding on the right makeup look for your big night out can be overwhelming.  Whether you want the full on slay of your favorite YouTube guru, the full coverage beat (with no dreaded flashback please!) of a Hollywood leading lady, or the effortless no-makeup-makeup-look of a runway model, these pro makeup artists know how to give you what you want.

Tip: Make sure to ask if they include any free products in the service price. Some on this list even offer the entire cost redeemable in product. That’s practically free!

MAC Pro Melrose // Blushington // Bluemercury // NARS on Melrose

2.  Let’s get back to basics

Great skin gives you the best canvas for a perfect makeup application. Think about a getting a deep cleansing facial two to three weeks before an event to clear the skin. A day or two before your event, consider a microcurrent facial to tone and tighten as well as brighten the skin.  Finally, try a hydrating mask to temporarily plump the skin, improve texture and make you look well-rested and fresh.

Tip: If you have a dreaded blemish, a steroid shot can help shrink it but I suggest doing this 48 hours before the event — especially if you’ve never had one before.

3. Style Me, Please

Have you ever dreamed of working with a professional fashion stylist? Well, here are a few of the favorite stores and shopping centers that Hollywood stylists visit to pull, get inspired and dress their A-List clients. We’ve included a luxury consignment shop – you might even score a piece that was once owned by your Hollywood fave.

Tip: Make sure to bring a pair of heels and maybe your undergarments (we’re looking at you, Spanx!) to get a real idea of how something might look on your big night.

4.  Color, Cut, Style, Extensions?

Will Gaga wear her hair platinum or red in honor of her character Ally in my personal fave A Star is Born? How will Sandra Oh style her gorgeous dark tresses as host and nominee of the star-studded evening? How will YOU wear your hair to the viewing party? Check out one of these celebrity-loved studios to create your perfect look.

Tip: Scroll the salon’s Instagram accounts to see which stylist can give you want you want.

5.  No photos, please

Ok, we lied.  We want all the photos. Now that you have glowing skin, the perfect makeup, hair on point and an outfit that makes you feel ah-maz-ing, you have to take the perfect photo for your social media feed.  West Hollywood is famous for its social media worthy locations, so grab your camera (or iPhone) and a friend and visit one of these picture perfect spots before you lose the light.

Tip:  You may want to opt for your camera phone because some of these locations may ask you to stop if your session looks and feels like a pro photo shoot.

Bonus:  For the Gents

We have some ideas for you guys as well. These include  some of our faves for the perfectly cut suit, sneaker dome, facials, hair, manis and makeup for your red carpet moment.

Tip: WeHo prides itself of being gender fluid, so if any of the aforementioned beauty and fashion spots in sections 1 – 5 appeal to you – we say go check it out
